Fritz Wagner
was a painter of still life, landscapes and genre scenes, usually with cavaliers. He was born in Zurich and travelled throughout Europe.
Fritz Wagner
studied at the Academie de la Brera de Milan. The choice of period costumes and settings was quite a deliberate move by Wagner, enhancing the decorative value of his subjects. To each figure he gave a different character enabling the viewer to read into the situation presented.
Fritz Wagner
had a natural ability to get his figures to interact, which helps to give his subjects anecdote. The detail given to the surrounding objects in each painting is very precise: his attention to glass, tiles, pottery and wood is fabulous.
All the surfaces and objects are accurately observed.
Fritz Wagner
's interiors are particularly effective when he includes windows, which, with their distorted thick glass panes, add a further dimension to his subjects.
