Educated in Hastings,
Frank Algernon Stewart
studied art under George ward at Rochester, Fred Brown at the Slade, and at Calderons. He became war artist to The Illustrated London News and in October, 1899 went to Africa where he saw action at Colenso, Spin Kop, Monti Christo and the releif of Ladysmith.
Frank Algernon Stewart
was invalided home and in 1901 went to Paris to study at Julian's . On returning to England he married, and he and his wife, Muriel Winifred, spent their later life at Southern House, Albert Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
Frank Algernon Stewart
was a keen hunting man and his work was predominantly of hunting scenes. In later life he was forced to give up hunting scenes as the result of an operation, but he continued to follow hounds on foot, making many sketches of hounds running.
