John Alfred Wheeler’s chosen subject matter was horses and dogs. His speciality was horse racing scenes and equestrian portraits.

John Alfred Wheeler was a member of the Wheeler family who worked in Bath and was doubtless the Wheeler who exhibited in London in 1875. Wheeler is none the less the most readily identified of the Wheeler dynasty to the extent that he espoused a particular set of themes.
